Daki, a deadly Upper Rank Six demon, hides behind the beauty and glamour of an oiran in the Yoshiwara district. Despite her graceful appearance, she is merciless and cruel, having slaughtered countless victims over the years. Her Blood Demon Art allows her to manipulate long, sash-like tendrils that can slice through buildings and flesh with terrifying speed. Her power is further amplified by the fact that she shares her rank with her brother, Gyutaro, making her far more formidable than she initially appears.
Tanjiro enters the battle already emotionally strained. Having lost Rengoku in the Mugen Train Arc and carrying the weight of protecting his sister Nezuko, his spirit burns with determination. When he confronts Daki, he faces not just a powerful enemy, but also the embodiment of everything he’s fighting against — cruelty, arrogance, and the loss of innocent lives.
Initially, Tanjiro is outmatched. Daki’s agility and strength push him to the edge, and her Blood Demon Art proves difficult to predict. However, in the heat of battle, something changes in Tanjiro. His desperation unlocks a deeper connection to the Hinokami Kagura, the Sun Breathing technique passed down by his father. His movements become faster, sharper, and more fluid. He transitions between Water Breathing and Sun Breathing with greater control, displaying a level of swordsmanship he hadn’t reached before. As the fight escalates, Daki merges with her brother, Gyutaro, revealing the true extent of the Upper Rank Six’s power. This revelation shifts the tide of the arc entirely, as the Demon Slayer Corps must now contend with two elite demons fighting as one. Tanjiro’s battle with Daki thus becomes a stepping stone to an even more deadly confrontation.
