Tanjiro vs Upper Moon 4 Clip

Tanjiro vs Upper Moon 4

The battle between Tanjiro Kamado and Upper Rank 4 demon Hantengu is one of the most emotionally and physically intense fights in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. It takes place during the Swordsmith Village Arc, where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya join forces with Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji to defend the hidden village from a deadly attack by the Upper Moons.

Hantengu, Upper Rank 4 of the Twelve Kizuki, is initially introduced as a cowardly and trembling figure, but his true horror lies in his Blood Demon Art, which allows him to split into multiple powerful clones based on his emotions. When first attacked, Hantengu splits into four demon forms—Sekido (Anger), Karaku (Pleasure), Urogi (Joy), and Aizetsu (Sorrow)—each possessing unique abilities and terrifying speed, strength, and regenerative capabilities.

Tanjiro quickly realizes this isn’t a battle he can win alone. Alongside Nezuko, who uses her demon powers to protect him and fight off the clones, and Genya Shinazugawa, who reveals his own demon-like transformation ability, they struggle to keep up with the pace and raw power of the Upper Moon’s emotional manifestations. Each clone is deadly: Sekido uses a staff to unleash lightning, Karaku controls wind with a massive uchiwa fan, Urogi attacks from the sky with sonic shrieks, and Aizetsu wields a spear while embodying sorrowful aggression. Together, they create a storm of chaos that overwhelms the Demon Slayers. Tanjiro is constantly forced to adapt, using every bit of his skill with Hinokami Kagura (Sun Breathing) and even tapping into memories of the first breath user, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, to find an edge.

Despite the clones’ teamwork, Tanjiro deduces a critical weakness: the demons are all part of one being. If he can find and destroy the original body, Hantengu, he can end the battle. However, Hantengu is a master of evasion. His real form remains hidden, tiny and constantly running, making it nearly impossible to locate amidst the chaos.

As the fight drags on, Tanjiro’s endurance and determination shine. Genya’s shocking ability to eat demon flesh and temporarily gain powers helps him hold his own, while Nezuko continues to risk her life, shielding Tanjiro even at the cost of being exposed to sunlight—her greatest weakness. Eventually, Tanjiro finds a moment of clarity and traces Hantengu’s real body, setting out in a desperate chase through the forest.

As dawn begins to break, the stakes rise dramatically. Nezuko is at risk of burning alive, and Tanjiro must choose between saving his sister or finishing off Hantengu. In a heart-wrenching moment, Nezuko kicks Tanjiro forward, sacrificing herself so he can kill the demon. With fury and anguish in his heart, Tanjiro pours everything into one final Hinokami Kagura slash and decapitates Hantengu’s true form.

Incredibly, Nezuko survives—revealed to have conquered the sun, becoming the first demon in history immune to sunlight. This moment shakes even Muzan Kibutsuji to his core and sets a new turning point in the story. For Tanjiro, it’s a bittersweet victory: they defeated an Upper Rank demon, but at the cost of unimaginable effort, pain, and emotional strain.

Themes and Impact

This battle is a showcase of Tanjiro’s growth, leadership, and unwavering compassion. It emphasizes how far he’s come—not just in swordsmanship, but in mental and emotional strength. He shows tactical brilliance, unshakeable will, and the ability to inspire others around him.

Hantengu, while cowardly, represents the festering evil that hides behind delusion and self-victimization—traits starkly opposed to Tanjiro’s integrity. The fight is not just physical; it’s a clash of values: courage versus fear, selflessness versus selfishness.

Ultimately, Tanjiro’s battle against Upper Moon 4 highlights the cost of victory, the depth of sibling love, and the emergence of hope in a world drowning in darkness.
