Toji Fushiguro Twixtor
Toji Fushiguro is a prominent and complex character in Jujutsu Kaisen, known for his overwhelming physical prowess, deep-seated resentment of the jujutsu world, and his complicated role as both an antagonist and a tragic figure. He is the father of Megumi Fushiguro and a former member of the infamous Zenin clan, one of the three great jujutsu families in the series. Despite being born into a prestigious sorcerer family, Toji’s life was marked by rejection, hardship, and defiance.
Toji was born without cursed energy, a rare and stigmatized condition in the jujutsu world. In a society that values and revolves around cursed energy and jujutsu techniques, this deficiency rendered him an outcast, even within his own powerful clan. The Zenin clan, obsessed with lineage and strength through cursed techniques, saw Toji as a failure and treated him accordingly. Eventually, he left the clan and abandoned its strict traditions, carving his own path as a “Sorcerer Killer”—a mercenary who specialized in assassinating jujutsu sorcerers for money.
Despite having no cursed energy, Toji possesses an extremely rare condition known as “Heavenly Restriction.” This condition removes all cursed energy from a person’s body in exchange for superhuman physical abilities and heightened senses. In Toji’s case, his body reached the peak of human physicality. His speed, reflexes, strength, and combat instinct far surpass those of most sorcerers. To make up for his lack of cursed energy, Toji employs a cursed spirit to store an arsenal of cursed tools and weapons, summoning them during combat with lethal precision.
Toji’s most notable appearance in the story is during the “Hidden Inventory” arc, where he is hired by the Time Vessel Association to assassinate Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel destined to merge with Master Tengen. In this arc, Toji confronts two of the strongest sorcerers of their generation: Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. His battle with them showcases both his power and tactical genius. Despite their formidable abilities, Toji manages to outwit and defeat them initially, killing Riko and temporarily killing Gojo. However, Gojo ultimately revives using his newfound mastery of Reverse Cursed Technique and defeats Toji in their rematch. Before dying, Toji tells Gojo about Megumi, revealing that he sold his son to the Zenin clan in a cold, transactional manner. However, the way he refers to Megumi with subtle pride hints at some lingering paternal instinct, even if twisted by his bitterness and detachment. This revelation sets the stage for Megumi’s future, as he is later taken in by Gojo and becomes a major character in the series.
Toji returns later in the Shibuya Incident arc, temporarily resurrected through a cursed technique. Despite being summoned as a puppet, he regains his will due to his lack of cursed energy, making him immune to the control of the curse that revived him. He promptly eliminates his summoner and wreaks havoc once more. In a brief but impactful moment, Toji encounters his son, Megumi, though he does not reveal his identity. Moved by seeing Megumi thriving on his own path, Toji ends his own life, allowing Megumi to continue without the shadow of his father’s legacy.
Toji Fushiguro is a symbol of the dark underbelly of the jujutsu world—a man discarded by tradition and power structures, who forged strength in his own way. He’s ruthless, pragmatic, and seemingly heartless, but under that exterior lies a deeply wounded individual shaped by rejection and loss. His relationship with his son, though largely defined by absence, is one of the most poignant threads in the series. Toji represents the consequences of a rigid and elitist system, and his story serves as both a cautionary tale and a compelling exploration of strength without cursed energy.
